How our Waiting List works

1st Berryfields Scout Group is lucky to be very popular, but due to this popularity we have to run a waiting list to help manage the group size. This policy aims to outline how this waiting list is run to give transparency over how young people can enter the group.

In order to join that waiting list we only ask that parents/carers fill in a simple form on our website located here. This will automatically add the young person to the list with basic contact information.

The Trustees review the waiting list once a term to select who can join each group as young people leave or move on to the next group. The prioritisation for this review is as follows:
– Trustees discretion (if there is a particular mitigating circumstance, the Trustees reserve the right to bring a young person in as a priority)
– young people moving up from a younger section
– young people of a leader or volunteer
– siblings of a current member
After this, places will be given on a first come first serve basis.

The Trustees may also compete an ad-hoc review if spaces become available between the termly reviews, these reviews will follow the same protocol as above.

Each term the Trustees contact everyone on the waiting list to inform them of the current length of the waiting list, however we are unable to estimate how long a young person might have to wait. Periodically the Trustees will also contact anyone who has been on the waiting list longer than one year (excluding those whose young people are below Squirrel age) to confirm whether they wish to remain on the waiting list.
